It’s clean, elegant, simple and serves it’s task without screaming out to you “Look at me, I’m on your desk as well!” But for all it’s glowing pluses it has a massive flaw – the track ball. When the mouse is brand new the track ball feels amazing. Agile and direct. But after a couple of months things start to go pair shaped and the glowing praise of the mighty apple mouse tends to wane – Especially if you are faced with the AUD $69.00 to replace it. (AUD$99.00 if you want the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse)

There are many tips out there on how to fix or live with it – but there is one clean fact that everyone agrees – Your mouse will never be the same again.

So, my tip is nothing new.. I’ve just done it so many times that I thought I would take a couple of photos of it and put it up for all my traffic your pleasure.

So here it goes. All you’ll need is a lint free cloth and some water.

Make the cloth slightly damp. You are not wanting it to be really wet as that will just get water up in the mouse and you’ll very soon be forking out some of your hard earned for a new mouse. You want it to be damp enough so that it’ll make the trackball ‘tacky’ to touch.

Lay your cloth down flat on a table and position your mouse so that the track ball is making contact with the cloth.

Drag the mouse a good 10 – 15 cm (4 – 6 inches) up and done on the cloth. You are wanting to get that track ball turning around quite a number of times to dislodge what ever has built up in there. Also move it to the left and right and around in a circle.

Your Might Mouses trackball should now feel somewhat as responsive as the day you took it out of it’s sleek packaging and you’ll be happy for the next couple of days.

This is not a permanent fix, I preform this task twice a week. Some would say just buy a new mouse. But this costs me nothing apart from 3 minutes of my time

Please leave a comment below if you have another solution to this problem – I’m all ears!
