Say goodbye to Vista – Say goodbye my baby…

goodbye

Windows Vista, touted as being the next best thing and a must for everyone wanting to look cool and shiny.

Lulled by the fancy round corner packaging, pretty Aero interface and more secure than any Windows before it. WHAT A CROCK!

This has to be one of the worst performing operating systems Microsoft has released (I don’t include ME to a Operating System) and it took then more than 5 years to develop. First, half the intended features end up on the cutting floor. Then delay after delay after delay.

I, like many people, bought a new PC in the hope that it would be sufficient to run Vista, as well as new games for the next 2 – 3 years.

  • Intel e6600
  • Nvidia 7950GX2
  • 2GB Corsair XMS2 ram

· And so on

I purchased Vista Business as I had a need for IIS and other features. The installation was all inspiring. Gone is the blue and white monochrome screen replaced by a shiny new GUI installer, “Oooo Errrr” I hear your murmur. After the Install I was greeted by a lovely large button with a cute picture of a kitty. “Owww”

How I love the MAC OS Aero interface. The little window’s orb is a nice touch. I proceeded with installing drivers as everyone does. Nivida WHQL ForceWare drivers. Fantastic.

THEN BANG! “Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered - nvlddmkm nVidia Driver”

2 whole months I put up with it, expecting that subsequent driver releases would correct such a disastrous problem. But no - As of the 6th of July there is no fix. Nvidia is dead silent on the issue. Microsoft has no answer.

No I have a couple more issues which are driving me up the wall. All of a sudden IE7 will not display flash files.. GREAT! And the side bar is now crashing on boot.

Well. That’s the end for me. To use an extremely bad pun, “Hasta la Vista – Vista” Back to XP.

And very soon, a big F&^K YOU to Microsoft as well, I’m switching to a Mac Pro and OSX! (As a Designer I should have just gone the Mac in the first place).

Oh, and ASP just doesn’t cut it anymore. Maybe ASP.NET. I think it’s time for me to move to PHP5. Imagine a word without Microsoft… wow

So I’m saying “Say goodbye to Vista – Say goodbye my baby… ” (Billy Joel for those playing at home)
