Well, I thought it was time to update the previous post about the burn-in on my Not-A-Year-Old 24inch iMac.
After about 3 hours (spanning over 4 calls), Apple finally tell me what I already knew – The screen was defective and as it was covered still under the 1 year warranty (I have the 3 year protection plan as well – very glad i do!) they would replace the LCD panel. The same day as they Apple told me that the panel was going to be replaced I received a call from the repairer – very snappy. After speaking with them about the problem (again!) they said we’ll be there tomorrow to replace the panel. How good! I didn’t need to take the Mac anywhere – they came to me!
No, Apple didn’t come over in a shiny electric white Toyota Prius but a bloke by the name of Anthony from Next Byte – A local Apple Premium Reseller did. He got to work straight away and 20 min later i had a shiny new screen.
Since then i have had 0 issues with the screen and I’m back to being a happy Apple zealot (more about that in a later post!)
So what have I learnt from this story? Apple are not as wholesome and shiny as I first thought. I defiantly got the sense Apple was trying to shirk their responsibility and find ways of not doing the repair. That said, keep at them and don’t take no for an answer has helped me in this situation.
Conclusion – I’m now happy Jan ;)
If you are not sure where the “Not Happy Jan” phrase has come from – check out the below youtube clip. Since this add “Not Happy Kan” has become an Australian saying.

HI Leigh – Sorry to hear you’re getting the same issue. It does seem to be a trend emerging with the 24″ iMacs. It’s funny, when i spoke with Apple they said (the Australian call center) they had never heard of it happening.. yeah right!
Please let me know how you go mate. Good luck
i don’t think its really that apple isn’t as shiny as you thought, they just have soo many requests daily, that they have to make sure that it was their fault, its pretty standard and any big company needs to protect themselves
HI Jenny,
Thanks for the comment. Whilst I do agree with you that they need to run checks to make sure where liability stands, asking me to run my iMac with it’s screen saver as a white screen for 4 weeks is a bit ridiculous. To me that Apple thinking “Lets just piss this guy off so that he doesn’t bother trying to have his AUD$1,000+ 24inch LCD replaced for free”. Also, Apple haven’t been all that ’shiny’ about the cracked joints in the first gen Macbook Air. You are right, they are a big company and as such would have reason to try and bork on there responsibilities.
This hasn’t changed the fact that I’m now a Mac Tard and still love everything Apple ;)
My company does Apple repairs, and we hear story after story about Apple give them the roundabout or just plain saying “We don’t fix that”. Glad to hear that it worked out for you.
Thanks Gene,
I’m very happy as well! I found out the price to replace the 24″ LCD and it’s not cheep! $900+
I’m happy that your perseverance paid off. As cool as Apple’s image and “brand” might be, it’s still a corporation. And corporations exist solely to make money for the shareholders.

Leigh Says
1 x Apple 24″ iMac – Check
1 x Screen LCD burn problem – Check
1 x Warranty Still left on iMac – Check
1 x Won’t take no for an answer from Apple – TBA
Thanks for the tip. I just noticed the screen burn issue tonight and wasn’t happy.
