For some time I’ve been looking around for the default text that you seen on Wordpress.org themes – text that shows each element and how it will look in any given blog. Such a source of text would be fantastic for theme developers like myself.
Look back over it, I don’t know why I just didn’t create this myself.. but oh well, hind site is a wonderful thing.
The lads, or should a say a Lad (Dan Philibin) over at WP Candy has created such sample WordPress content ready for all your theme needs.
Here’s what’s int he importable XML file.
Installing the sample content couldn’t be easier as well
Then, log in to your WordPress admin panel and navigate to Manage>Import. Select the WordPress option from the bottom of the list, choose your file, and upload it. Within a few minutes you should have a ready-to-go development server.
Head on over toWP Candy and grab the zip file

John Martz from Robot Johnny had been commissioned by Derek Balmer, the creator of Momentile, to create a cheeky greeting page for users who visited the website using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. His post shows his process in producing the final image and is well worth the read.
Very cheeky and light-heated, which is refreshing (not to mention creative!) because I think we, as web developers and designers, are starting to get a little arrogant and elitist towards people who may not know better then to upgrade to a better browser.
Click through to robotjohnny.com and take a look and post a comment on his blog if you like his work.

So apparently installing Wordpress is a bit tricky. I tend to agree with some that the ‘famous 5-minute installation’ is really nothing more than a marketing tool. If you don’t know how to create a MySQL database, or how to set the folder permission on your root folder, create your wp-content/uploads folder and set the permission so that Wordpress can upload all your fantastic flashy images then you are going to be spending a lot more time then 5 minutes trying to figure these things out.
Now don’t get me wrong I love Wordpress and how it works (and installs) but 5 minutes only applies to those who know what they are doing.
So – What can you do? Someone over at 9 Miles Media has created an install script to do all the work for you. Now I haven’t tried it as I don’t have any use for it what so ever, but I did think it was an interesting concept that some might find useful.
